The day of German unity(Tag der deutschen Einheit) is a nationwide public holiday celebrated on the 3rd October.This date marks the day in 1990 on which the German Democratic Republic (East) acceded to the Federal Republic of Germany.
During that day thousands of people walked through the Brandenburg Gate to symbolize the union between the two Germanys.
The celebration include speeches by politicians, concerts, communal meals and a fireworks show to close the day. Every year there’s a four-day long festival around Brandenburg Gate and the “Straße des 17. Juni”. Visitors can find booths with sweets, food and beverages, as well as bands offering free concerts on differents stages.
