Today is International Internet Day! This date commemorates the day in 1969 when the first message was sent from one computer to another in California, USA.
On this day people also celebrate how far the Internet has come since that time. Today, Internet is available across the globe so people everywhere can connect and have access to all kinds of services and information. This celebration started in 2005.
The past
In 1969 Internet was known as ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network) and on October 29th a student programmer from UCLA named Charley Klein was working in a project under the supervision of the Professor Leonard Kleinrock. The project was to try to transmit a message from a computer housed at UCLA to a computer positioned at the Stanford Research Institute. The message was “Login” and the process started without problem but during the transmission the system collapsed so only the first to letters arrived to their destination… Meaning the first message sent from a computer ever was: “Lo” :)
