December 22 - More fun facts

Yuilopers, today we are going to talk about fun facts related to music and Christmas songs.

  • Carols weren’t sung in churches until they were introduced by St Francis of Assisi in the 13th century. Then Carols became an English custom called wassailing, toasting neighbours to a long life.
  •

  • There is no reference to angels singing anywhere in the Bible.
  •

  • James Pierpont’s 1857 song Jingle Bells was first called One Horse Open Sleigh and was written for Thanksgiving. Jingle Bells was the first song broadcast from space when Gemini 6 astronauts Tom Stafford and Wally Schirra sang it on December 16, 1965.
  •

  • The bestselling Xmas single ever is Bing Crosby’s White Christmas, shifting over 50 million copies worldwide since 1942.
  •

  • In Britain, the best-selling festive single is Band Aid’s 1984 track, Do They Know It’s Christmas?, which sold 3.5 million copies. Wham! is next in the same year with Last Christmas, selling 1.4million.
  •

  • The Beatles hold the record for most Xmas number 1 singles, topping the charts in 1963, 65 and 67.

December 21 - Cold, but with free stuff to do.

This week we’ll talk about Berlin, the city where you can enjoy free activities in these cold months.

In Berlin there are about 60 different markets typical for the Christmas dates. But one particular Hanukkah is organized throughout the month of December by the city’s Jewish museum in its glass yard, typical for this culture and traditional spirit. Always in Germany, in Tübingen, the ChocoART Festival takes place where you can enjoy chocolate in all its forms: from cakes to massage.

The longest remaining stretch of the Berlin Wall is known as the Eastside Gallery, on Mühlenstraße in the central suburb of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, a fascinating, symbolic example of what once split the city into East and West, and today is covered in colourful art.

The Brandenburg Gate has become a symbol of Germany unity. It was the scene of many significant events from the past 200 years, and another iconic site not to miss. During the Cold War the Gate marked the divide between the East and West Berlin. It finally became the symbol of the national unity when the Wall fell. The landmark’s sandstone gates are topped by a sculpture of a Quadriga, a four-horsed chariot driven by the winged Goddess of victory, who looms overhead.

New Berlin offers a free tour of the capital every day from the Brandenburg Gate, following the line of the wall to Checkpoint Charlie, across the grand Gendarmenmarkt to Museum Island and finishing in the Lustgarden, the old royal gardens. The tour is led by local experts and is completely free.

December 20 - SMS or Chat, Chat or SMS

yuilopers, you all know very well that you can communicate with yuilop free_to_all. With our app you can call yuilop users wherever they are absolutely unlimited. You can also communicate by chatting. What is the difference between chat and text messages (SMS)?

The term chat, which in English means talk, shows the service that enables dialogue in writing via mobile (or tablet) with a person in real-time. Chat with friends who have downloaded yuilop is free and unlimited and you can use chat to send photos and videos. You can also use emojis for fun to add color and humor to your real-time chat.

To write chats it is necessary that your device is connected to Wi-Fi or a 3G network.

With text messaging (SMS, three letters indicating the abbreviation for “Short Message Service”) you can stay in touch with your friends too if you do not have internet connection on your mobile. An SMS enables you to send messages of 160 characters of text, including spaces, and usually not free, each telephone company puts the price, that also varies according to if the SMS is aimed at a national or international mobile number (with Prices varying according to the destination country). With yuilop you can send SMS for free to all phones in the world simply by taking advantage of the Energy that you can continually re-accumulate.

For every SMS you spend a number of Energy points depending on the destination country and you can get that Energy again by inviting friends to download the app, chatting with them and participating in contests and promotions.

On the agenda of yuilop you can find all contacts that are saved on your phone. If a friend has yuilop he will appear in “favorites”, if he doesn’t have yuilop you can also click on your contact and write a message, and you will be sending an SMS that is free and will make you spend only Energy points. If he has a Smartphone invite him to download the app and continue to communicate with him free unlimited!

December 19 - Christmas tree

Today we are going to talk about Christmas Tree, this particular symbol of Christmas around the world.

        • They may date back to pagan traditions, but the earliest known reference to a Christmas tree is in a German pamphlet from 1570. According to the Guinness world records, the tallest Christmas tree ever cut was a 221-foot Douglas fir that was displayed in 1950 at the Northgate Shopping Center in Seattle, Washington.

        • In Poland, spiders or spider webs are common Christmas trees decorations because according to legend, a spider wove a blanket for Baby Jesus. In fact, Polish people consider spiders to be symbols of goodness and prosperity at Christmas.

        • Nearly 60 million Christmas trees are grown each year in Europe and many parts of the hanging presents on trees may come from the Druids who believed the tree was the giver of all good things.

        • Since 1947 Oslo has sent an Xmas tree to London to thank brits for help in the Second World War.

        • And finally… did you know that Christmas tree can actually be eaten, with the needles being a good source of Vitamin C? ;)

December 18 - Say Merry Christmas! with yuilop

yuilop is the only app that offers free calls to mobile phones without the app, phone calls to fixed lines and free sms to users without smartphone. There’s no other app available on AppStore or GooglePlay that do what we do.

But have you ever asked yourself how is this possible? Today you are going to know about yuilop’s magic technology that makes everything that we do, possible. Have you ever heard about The VoIP Technology?

The Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a technology that allows a user to establish telephone calls over a data network, converting an analog voice signal into a set of digital signals subsequently sent over an Internet connection under the form of packets with IP addressing.

In less than two decades VoIP has revolutionised the telecommunications industry. The first recognisable VoIP software was launched back in the early days of the modern internet in 1995, a long time ago. This technology has helped to knock down barriers in international communication, providing a genuine alternative to telephone calls through traditional telecom. This concept allowed PC users to avoid long distance charges, and it was in 1995 that the first Internet Phone Software appeared.

But back then domestic users, unfortunately, were hampered by the technological limitations of the time; slow connection speeds and poor quality audio codecs were serious obstacles that needed to be overcome before VoIP could make the jump to the mainstream. The arrival of affordable broadband internet connections in most western cities by the early 2000s was crucial to the proliferation of VoIP and internet telephony services.

Today, things are more fast and easy. The biggest single advantage VoIP has over standard telephone systems is cost. In addition, international calls using VoIP are usually very inexpensive. One the other hand, is that calls between VoIP users are usually free. You can take us as an example, yuilop can provide communication free_to_all and we are making a great job, don’t you think?
